A fabulous large 'Avena' art glass vase designed by Tapio Wirkkala for iittala, Finland. Design no 3429, it has an irregular jagged ice or bark surface texture with narrower foot and tapering to wider top. It's a 1970s brutalist/modernist design and probably dating from this era. It is fully hand-signed to the base "TAPIO WIRKKALA 3429".
It's the larger sized version of the design. A good sized statement 23.6cm tall x 11cm x 9cm, heavy at 
1.2kg. It is a good thick clear and quality moulded glass with a crystal content (mouth blown into a mould).
Very good clean condition with no obvious chips, water marks, etc. It has four teeny microscopic nibbles to the outer rim (not visible). I'd give it a 9/10, great compared to others with nothing glaring. Would hold about a dozen taller stems - but more for display!
