A large five-lobed art glass bowl by Whitefriars, England. This one is the 9408 8" bowl in Kingfisher Blue. The blue in this model would date it to around 1969. The shape was likely designed by Geoffrey Baxter in the 1960s. The kingfisher colour is a vibrant cyan or bold deep turquoise.
Mouth blown and handmade, the Kingfisher blue round inner bowl is cased in clear glass. There are five clear outer lobes or ribs. The base is flower-like, with five flat parts and the indented Whitefriars pontil. It would have been a large fancy ashtray back in the day. It's wide and low and very heavy.
Very good condition with no chips or cracks or impacts. A couple of fine small scratches but nothing visible, very good lobes (these are usually scuffed) and good inside with minimal marks. I'd give it a 9/10 - very displayable and perfect for a collection. About 22 x 22cm wide x 7cm tall. Weighs a hefty 2.5kg!
P&P included to the UK.
