A lovely little vintage Walter Bosse trunk-down elephant. These were designed as egg cups but are great today as a ring dish or candle holder (small round ball ones). Produced for Herta Baller, Austria, the design dates from the 1950s so this fellow dates from the 1950s onwards. It's unsigned but probably would have had a 'Made in Austria' sticker. It's blackened cast brass/bronze with shiny highlights. I've checked the design against the Modern Vienna Bronze official website, and he measures and looks the same. Walter Bosse (and his partner Herta Baller) were famous for quirky stylised animals, known as the 'Black Golden Line'. This version is handcrafted in solid brass/bronze, with a stylised Modernist look and black coating, specific areas were polished to reveal a golden sheen, highlighting certain features. Please check all photos. Very good condition for age; a couple of tiny marks to the front of his head and some ageing to the shiny brass. 6.7cm long x 4.2cm wide x 3.8cm tall. Rounded bowl area is small, about 3 x 3cm. Good for display and for a collection. Price includes P&P to the UK.
