A fab (and very hard to find) vintage money box by Iden Pottery, Rye, East Sussex. Iden pottery was potter Dennis Townsend - Dennis' brother Kenneth worked there for a very short spell and produced a few designs for the Pottery. This is a rare piece by Ken Townsend (also known for his stylised work with Hornsea, Chance Glass and Galt games).
He's a handmade pottery male hippy musician figurine; he has a 1960s style beard and long hair and is playing a guitar/sitar. Circa late 1960s/1970s, this is stamped to the base with the Iden logo. The stoneware/clay is a pale natural colour with reddy inset areas. Typical of the 1970s Studio Pottery era. This is more ornamental, collectable and sculptural than for use. (Funnily enough, I live just 6 miles from its origin). 11cm tall x 7cm wide (max).
Very good condition for the age. There some internal chips inside the slot when you view it from behind, see photos. It is all fully functional - and very collectable. Being a money box he has an upper coin slot and stopper.
