A mid century 1960s/1970s designer candle, by fashion designer Nana Suni, Finland.
Nana was better known for her fabric design. Born in Tampere, Finland, Nana Suni (Anneli nee Wallin, b. 1928) graduated from the textile arts department of the University of Applied Arts in 1953. She was known for woollen textiles made under the Nana Suni Design label - shoulder scarves, blankets and ponchos - and as a designer of carpets and candles. Nana Suni and Pentti Sarpaneva opened a shop called Designer’s Shop on Helsinki’s Korkeavuorenkatu in 1966... it's more than likely this candle came from this shop about 50 years ago.
If you think of the nature of a candle, they're designed to burn - so it's very rare to find a vintage candle, boxed, and with original leaflet. It's a straight-sided tapering-in shape. It has four rings engraved into it, making it more like a collectable vase than a wax creation. According to the leaflet the design is 'Norte 4002'. It's 100% stearin wax with a burning time of 35 hours. It has been used, apx 1cm has been melted down.
Good condition, considering the age/era. One side has a couple of scuffs on the lower section. Signs of use to the top. Box is good. 22cm tall x 56mm wide at the base.
This is more for a collector of Finnish design than for use.
