A fab (and hard to find) vintage money box by Iden Pottery, Rye, East Sussex. Iden pottery was potter Dennis Townsend - Dennis' brother Kenneth worked there for a very short spell and produced a few designs like this for the Pottery. This is a rare piece by Ken Townsend (also known for his stylised work with Hornsea, Chance Glass and Galt games). Circa late 1960s/1970s. He's a handmade pottery male hippy musician figurine; he has a 1960s style low beard, moustache and long hair and is playing a guitar/sitar and looks to be whistling. The moulded white pottery/clay has been glazed all over with white, with a pearlescent glaze for his hair and hand painted metallic silver glaze features. These also came unglazed with a reddy brown clay colour. Typical of the 1970s Studio Pottery era. This is more ornamental, collectable and sculptural than for use. 11.5cm tall x 7cm wide with a coin slot to his head. Very good condition for the age, see photos. It is all fully functional - and very collectable. Being a money box he has an upper coin slot and the original plastic stopper underneath. Free P&P to the UK.
