A nice sgraffito vase by Fratelli Fanciullacci, Italy. Mid century 1960s or 1970s era. Pottery/stoneware with a glossy off-white and beige speckled glaze, incised with sgraffito lines, patterns and decorated with two horses and glossy teal blue/green areas. A cylinder shaped vase, tapering upwards to a square rim. Terracotta coloured ceramic hand signed on the base with '8149 Italy'. The glossy teal is a deep peacock or petrol blue/green colouring. The horses have wings and are highly stylised.
Nice condition with no obvious chips or crazing on display. Clean inside. On very close inspection the incised design has tiny areas of missing glaze (exposed terracotta hidden in the grooves and folds towards the bottom), see last photo as an example. The base has some baked in mud/clay that won't come off and the baseline has a few imperfections from age and wear. Fully functional and displays really well.
20cm tall x 10.3cm wide at the base (6cm x 6cm square rim) - a good mid size. Would hold over a dozen flower stems if used.
It's very striking - perfect for a mid-century home and for a Fratelli Fanciullacci collector.
