A rare Hornsea Pottery 'circular wall plaque' or ornamental plate or trivet or teapot stand, from 1972.
It's a vivid glossy deep lime green over Hornsea's Muramic brown clay/pottery. The butterfly is tones of glossy black and white with teal and duck egg blue - looks to be printed and stencilled on, over the deep lime green. Stamped to the reverse with the logo. May well by attributed to John Clappison - certainly of that era of early 1970s.
These rare circular wall plaques from 1972 came in contrasting colours with a variety of wildlife on (selenium glazes were used which when fired gave a textured background). The item is flat so suited as a trivet/teapot stand.
16cm wide x 0.7cm deep. Very good condition with no scratches to the glossy glazed uppers, see photos.
