A vintage studio pottery cat figurine, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so...
Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted blue, brown and green glazes over a pale neutral-toned matt clay and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular vases. This cat would have been moulded with pressed flower and geometric patterns, then a petrol or denim blue wash applied, which has been rubbed back to reveal highlights and lowlights. The subtle raised motifs include a flower to his chest and a large flower bud to his spine. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes and primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs.
No maker's marks. 12cm tall x 8cm wide x 5cm deep. Very good condition with no noticeable flaws. These are all different, collect a group of them!
Price includes P&P to the UK.
