A retro design classic by Alan Fletcher, this vintage two piece ashtray fits together clam-like to form a round squashed 'Edam' shape.
The design dates from the late 1960s and was put into production by Alan Fletcher's Pentagram company in 1972, I believe. This is the older and harder to find Pentagram Design Objectives (DO) original from the early 1970s. The design was later produced by Mebel and made in Italy for Habitat - I'd guess the Habitat versions date from mid 1970s to early 1990s. It is signed inside 'Pentagram DO 948550/948551' (hard to spot).
It's a beautiful tactile rounded hard melamine plastic, fireproof and virtually indestructible. The two indentical pieces fit perfectly together. The rounded dips were intended for cigars/cigarettes.
Excellent condition for the age and era (the teeth break easily). The 'teeth' are in good condition, with just a few nibbles, but no chips or gaps. Some surface marks to the two bases (bases are interchangeable). Excellent inside with no signs of use or scratches.
15.5cm wide. Apx 7.5cm high put together. Bright egg yolk yellow - so so retro! A really nice vintage original.
Includes P&P to the UK.
