An adorable stylised vintage pottery hedgehog... by David Sharp at Rye Pottery (East Sussex, England). This example is hand signed 'David Sharp' to the base. It would have been intended as a money box, but the base hole was probably too big and wonky for a stopper. It has a money slot to the top. Handmade with white clay, and circa 1970s era. Typical of David Sharp's shape, style, technique, decor and colouring. The glaze is wax resist, glossy and matt, in a dusky deep petrol blue and lighter blue tone. Good size - apx 15.5cm long x 10cm tall x 11cm wide. Cute face with small eyes, cute turned up nose, and ears. A lovely collectable example of a British Studio Pottery hedgehog art sculpture. Excellent condition with no crazing - all as originally manufactured. No stopper. The slot to the top has a slither of white glaze which appears to be a manufacturing flaw which was then glazed over. Being handmade, he's unique! Price includes P&P to the UK.
