A beautiful mid-century handled pot or vase by Mari Simmulson at Upsala Ekeby, Sweden. Circa 1950s to 1960s. The stoneware pottery pot is rounded and chunky and in a glossy dark brown and off-white tones. The front and back panels depict modernist fish, and abstract trees to the sides. Handmade. Mari Simmulson trained at the Finnish porcelain factory Arabia. In 1944, Simmulson moved to Sweden and began working at the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. In 1949 she moved to Upsala Ekeby where her most remembered pieces were created. Her works are imaginative, colourful and decorative - figures, vases and reliefs, as well as sculptural pieces. Several of her works are exhibited at Uppsala Konstmuseum. Very good condition. No chips; a few small scratches. The finish may have natural glazing flaws. No visible maker's mark. A rounded shape larger pot with side handles or ears... 11cm widest x 11cm tall pot (9cm wide rim). Free P&P to the UK.
