A striking and larger red Scheurich West German pottery piggy bank. I believe this little fellow is 1960s/1970s vintage, fat lava era, and very much using those colourings. He's probably model no 793, like the 792 and 791, but with a locked opening to the base. Pottery/ceramic shaped hollow pig. Four leaf clover tail. Adorable face with smiling snout and cute rounded body. Glossy glazes in deep red with simple hand painted flower designs in dark blue and green to each side. A larger example, 14.5cm long x 12.5cm high x 11cm wide. A good example, with a few fine marks to the glaze from age and use and a few areas of thinner glaze. Coin slot has a tiny nibble each end, see photos. Locked plastic stopper to the base (no key). No maker's marks or stamps. Perfect for a modern or mid-century home. More for display for a grown-up, than for a child's toy - although it would look fab out of reach in a nursery. He is empty and looks good. Includes P&P to the UK.
