A super stylish (and weighty) vintage Robert Welch candlestick, from the Hobart range. Circa 1960s. This Hobart candlestick is the smallest in the range, a CD50, designed for a single standard tapered dinner candle. It is an original Robert Welch design from 1961, which was produced until 1971, from the Camden Designs cast iron range. Robert Welch was known for his stainless steel and silver ranges for Old Hall, along with these modernist/industrial cast iron pieces. This first candle design formed the beginning of Welch's cast iron designs. The book extract shown in the last photo is from Robert Welch: Design, Craft and Industry and shows the small CD50 candle in the centre. Made from solid cast iron metal, black with a light sheen. Just 9.5cm tall x 6.5cm wide at the base. The inner cup has 'R Welch England' text within, and the cup has three small ridges to help hold your tapered dinner candle securely in place. Very good condition. Fully functional and an iconic design. The surface has been subtly re-coated in black and is a really nice example. Free P&P to the UK.
