A very hard to find early Isle of Wight Studio Glass piece by Michael Harris. Michael started at Isle of Wight in 1972 and this 'attenuated bottle' dates from his earliest days, so circa 1972-1973. It's an uncatalogued experimental colour - blue and white swirls - not to be mistaken for Seaward (with green swirls and no white). See Mark Hill's Michael Harris book page 73.
This bottle is the shorter version at 37cm tall (harder to find as most people wanted the larger pieces at a similar price). It has the early typical broken pontil mark to the base. It has a part paper label to the base too. Mouth blown and handmade by Michael Harris. Unsigned.
Royal blue and opaque white streaks with bubbles and clear glass, pulled slim neck and wide rim. 37cm x 8.5cm body x 6cm rim.... if being used as a vase it'll take a single stem or a large feather.
Very good condition. I think it's as produced with all the natural manufacturing imperfections to the pontil base; there's shell like broken shards underneath - please check all photos. Rim is wonky with natural formation lines within. I can't see or feel any scratches. I didn't clean inside.
If you're after an IOW rarity, this is perfect for display and for a collection.
