A golden toffee coloured Murano art glass dish. Made in Murano, near Venice, Italy. Original design attributed to Mandruzzato or Campanella. It's square/octagonal from above, with pentagon and triangular shaped cut (faceted) sides, tapering down to a small square flat polished base. Each side is skillfully polished flat at a precise angle. There's 12 cut sides (3 x 4), which reflect the light in an amazing way. Flat polished rim with a rounded square opening. It's a warm toffee brown internally (a rounded well) with a golden orange (or dark amber) floating colour/sommerso layer. The outer glass, the casing, is clear. It would have been a fancy ashtray back in the day.
It's an older original 1950s or 1960s version of the design due to the skill, size, weightiness, quality and flat base. 6.5cm tall x 12.5cm widest. Around 700g - quite a nice chunk of mid century coloured glass. Hand made/hand finished - looks lovely in the sunshine!
Good displayable condition with no obvious chips or scratches or nibbles... but if you look closely there are a few small signs of its age. There's a corner impact scar, photo eight (no loss of glass or chips). The inner rim is slightly imperfect with a few tiny bites. And the base shows signs of its age - it's a little rough around the edges form age. But it's an original mid century piece, un-restored, and in good condition showing its history. I'd give it a decent 8/10. Please study all photos.
Includes P&P to the UK.
