A stunning vintage art glass basket bowl, designed by Hana Machovska for Mstisov Glassworks (Czech/Bohemian). Part of the short-lived Romana range, it was designed in around 1961 and produced until 1964, so dating from the early 1960s. An organic freeform glass sculpture with a peachy salmon pink and blue side stripes (or lobes or prunts), with a central amber bowl, with amber sommerso and a clear glass base. Beautifully and deliberately asymmetric. Tactile quality glass, mouth blown - model number 53655/18. Machovska was a protege of Frantisek Zemek and you can clearly see the influences and similarities with Zemek.
Excellent condition for age and era with no chips. Base is flat and polished with a few small signs of age. 18cm tall x 17cm wide x 6.5cm. 800g - heavy for its size.
