A fabulous mid century (1950s-1970s) pottery mug, typical of San Marino work, Italy (see p179 of Mark Hill's Alla Moda).
San Marino or another very similar maker such as Titano or a Florentine artist. Signed at the bottom with undecipherable signature.
The glossy red and black mug has a beautiful sgraffito lady to the centre. She is matte black with white exaggerated features, with accents of glossy blobs of yellow, white and blue glaze, surrounded by flowers.
Inside is glossy blue. There's some pencil writing to the matte black base 'N94'. The design is typical of the time/area and is very nicely done.
It's a tall mug size, simple straight sided, at 11.2cm tall x 7.3cm cylinder. Holds roughly 300ml. Could also double up as a pot or vase.
Very good condition with no chips. Functional, but probably more for display and for a collection. A unique mid century retro piece of San Marino art.
