A vintage studio pottery/stoneware large vase or plant pot holder by Rye Pottery, Sussex. The base stamp dates it to 1957-1969, mid century. Rye Pottery was John Cole and Walter Cole, with Marjorie and Tarquin - this is very likely to be by John Cole.
The vase/planter has been wheel thrown, then pushed in slightly at the top to form a squarer rim shape. It's been glazed white and has been hand painted in mid and navy blue. Geometric stripes to the lower half and flower or star shapes to the top half.
If used as a planter the inner bottom is about 8cm diameter, it would hold any height of plant pot, maybe a narrower taller plant. Indoor use only. If used as a vase it would hold a large amount of bushier stems.
17.5cm tall x 17cm widest rim (16cm wide the other way). Outer base is 10cm wide.
In great condition with no real signs of use/age. No chips or crazing. Being handmade there are little quirks within the workmanship and firing from manufacture, some bubbles/dots in the colour etc.
Price includes P&P to the UK.
