A pair of super Foley (England) white bone china pin dishes or small decorative plates, designed by Maureen Tanner. They entitled The Gay Nineties and depict a stylised seaside couple in their old-fashioned bathing suits from the 1890s. They're mid century, circa 1950s. Vintage and quirky/fun/kitsch in style. Simple rounded oblong dishes with simply coloured stylised prints with black outlines. Maureen Tanner was an accomplished British illustrator and designer who worked for Foley Bone China during the 1950s and 1960s. Her most famous collectable series is the Gay Nineties, which featured these whimsical stylised drawings of 1890s-era figures and beach fashions. Each is 11.5cm x 6cm, a shallow dish.
