A super XL art glass dish, by Paul Kedelv for Flygsfors, Sweden, from the Coquille range. Hand signed to the base with 'Coquille' and 'Flygsfors 58'... so mid century Swedish from 1958.
A plum purple inner with a darker purple edge and a clear precise rim. From the side it's opaque white with a purple line, then a clear rim. All cased in clear glass. A simple symmetrical oval shape, higher in the middle - all very tactile. It's a large and heavy statement centrepiece example - 26cm x 17cm wide x 10.5cm tallest (6cm tall at the low ends). Weighs a very hefty 2.25kg - thick mouth blown handmade art glass.
Very good condition for age and era. Looks and displays as excellent. On close inspection there is one small internal scratch inside and a few tiny fine other marks (I'd give it a 9/10). The signed flat polished base has the correct signs of wear for the age and era.
It is a really nice example from 1958. Hard to believe the age - a 1950s design ahead of its time. Displays beautifully and ideal as a centrepiece or statement bowl.
