A beautiful vintage icy Kosta 'Polar' art glass candle holder... Designed by Goran Warff and handmade in Sweden by Kosta or Kosta Boda. The design was inspired by the unique relationship between light and ice found in the Scandinavian landscape; it was originally created as a gift to the Sydney Opera House in 1974. This is circa 1980s-1990s. It's crystal, so it's heavy and bright and clear, reflecting light beautifully. The icy fronds look like upside down melting stalactites, all dripping and glistening with layers of random undulations. The inner well is designed to take a tapered pillar candle or a tealight candle on the ledge within (see photos). In very good condition with no chips. Being handmade and moulded it has folds, ripples, swirls and bubbles within the glass, all as produced and intentional. It's a heavy lump of Scandi art glass, apx 8.5cm high x 10cm wide (a bigger one). Weighs 870g. Perfect to bunch together with Kosta Boda Snowballs, Sunflowers or Polars. No maker's marks. Includes P&P to the UK. Includes a tealight candle. _______ “Glass is a liquid. It’s as alive as rippling water. In Polar, I have frozen that movement in time, capturing the convergence of ice and light in an optical phenomenon. Polar is uncompromising, filled with life and movement.” – Göran Wärff
