A fab (and hard to find) vintage money box by Iden Pottery, Rye, East Sussex. Iden pottery was potter Dennis Townsend - Dennis' brother Kenneth worked there for a very short spell and produced a few designs for the Pottery. This is a rare piece by Ken Townsend at Iden (he was also known for his stylised work with Hornsea, Chance Glass and Galt games and worked from his studio in Hastings).
She's a handmade pottery crazy cat lady; she has a 1960s style hippy smock, long hair and is holding her smiling cat. Circa late 1960s/1970s, this is stamped to the base with the Iden logo. The stoneware/clay is a pale natural colour with reddy inset areas - natural matt finish, unglazed. Typical of the 1970s Studio Pottery era. This is more ornamental, collectable and sculptural than for use. 11cm tall x 7cm wide (max).
Very good condition for the age with no chips. Slot looks ok and is as produced. It is all fully functional. Being a money box she has an upper coin slot and original plastic stopper. Stopper is a bit tatty inside but holds firm. Stamped with logo to the base.
