A super vintage art pottery vase, stamped to the base with a '* Isle of Wight * Pottery' round logo, along with the number '3L'. It's handmade, wheel thrown and glazed with a flat satin purple glaze, lightly speckled. The red terracotta clay can be seen to the base.
It's very similar to the Isle of Wight Handcraft Pottery logo used by Samuel E Saunders and it's just like his early first phase of work 1926-1932, but his pieces usually have an impressed logo. I'll let you decide if it's a SS piece. Please let me know if you know more.
Beautiful purple simple modernist vase, smooth, slightly rougher inside. The purple is an amethyst blue/grey tone. 11cm tall x 7cm rim x 10cm widest. Very good with no chips or cracks or crazing.... amazing if it is 1930s!
