A beautiful dark Bristol/Cobalt or Royal blue glass Holmegaard piggy bank. The design is supposedly by Per Lütken although very similar to those by Jacob E Bang (so could be by either) for Holmegaard, Denmark. It was designed in 1954 for IRMA supermarket, Denmark, and originally came filled with raw rice as a novelty rice dispenser/shaker. When it was empty, you could take it back to IRMA and have the back cut with a slot for coins. I believe this little fellow is 60s/70s vintage, pressed glass. Very similar to the other Holmegaard coloured glass pigs with the dimples. No maker's marks.
Quite scarce as the only way to empty them is to smash them! Therefore unused. 9.5cm tall x 15cm long. 
Very good condition with no chips. The money slot looks rough with nibbles, but this is most likely to be from the cutting/manufacturing process, see pictures. A couple of tiny surface marks/scratches, but nothing glaring and very good for age and era. Very displayable, collectable and presentable. I'd give it a 9/10.
Perfect for a mid-century home. More for display for a grown-up, than for a child's toy - although it would look fab out of reach in a nursery!
