An Austrian mid century pottery fish figurine by Gudrun Baudisch-Wittke from her art studio Hallstatt Ceramics. Gudrun (1907-1982) was a renowned established Austrian ceramist, sculptor and painter. She founded the Keramik Hallstatt workshop in 1945 which she ran until 1977. She was commissioned to do many large scale sculptures and architectural decorations, and also produced these smaller pieces. The lovely fish is handmade and unique and typical of her small-scale animal art sculptures and is circa 1950s to 1960s vintage. He's very much in a mid century studio pottery style - chunky and simplified with incised lines. He's tones of rough deep brown clay and glossy white and off-white, in almost a raku style. He has holes for the eyes and mouth. Good vintage condition. The clay is naturally rough so any rough or unglazed areas are deliberate. He has one baseline chip/loss of glaze underneath, see photo. Unsigned. An adorable 14cm long x 8cm high. Perfect gift idea - this is more a piece of art; he's ornamental and sculptural - perfect collectable for an MCM room. Free P&P to the UK.
