A super 'Small Bison' designed by Colin Melbourne in 1956 and produced for a short time for the Midwinter Modern range for Midwinter Pottery. So circa 1956-1957 mid century vintage, model number 185.
He's the smaller size and hard to find Bison, modelled in a matt black glaze from a range of animal and abstract figures by Melbourne in china. The hollow moulded form has no maker's marks. Colin Melbourne went on the design similar bulls for Trentham Pottery/Beswick, but this lovely little fellow is more simple and stylised - mid century modernist.
13cm long x 7.5cm tall. Excellent collectable condition. See all photos. The matt black glaze doesn't go all the way down on one leg. A beautiful vintage gift idea.
