A pair of vintage studio pottery slim tall mugs by Cinque Ports Pottery, Rye, Sussex... Rye Art Pottery was founded in 1956 by David Sharp and his friend George Gray. David had previously worked at the similarly-named Rye Pottery, so Rye Art Pottery was renamed Cinque Port Pottery instead. Cinque Port Pottery was a successful venture, with David Sharp as the artist. By the early 1960s the partnership became a limited company - Cinque Ports Pottery Ltd (note, the new use of the plural 'Ports' and the addition of Ltd). Sharp worked there until 1964. So this is likely after David Sharp left and by George Cray, from the Monastery workshop site and late 1960s to 1970s vintage. Wheel thrown and glazed white, the cylindrical mugs have a yellow over glaze with white stripes formed by a wax-resist type technique. The yellow is a nice straw yellow, typical of the 1960s. Very good and useable. No chips or crazing and clean inside. Stamped to the bases. The matching pair are 12cm tall x 5cm wide base and 6cm wide rims. 250ml max capacity. They have their subtle handmade glazing quirks and tiny bubbles etc - see photos. Price includes P&P to the UK. Price is for the pair.
