A vintage studio pottery art vase, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so... Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted matt blue, brown and green washes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular pieces. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes with primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs.
This vase is an oval rounded shape. The outers of this vase were probably moulded, then different contrasting relief decors were hand applied. One side has a spiral circles geometric design, the other a stylised large flower head and leaves. It has muted pale blue denim colours, stormy sky tones. A pale fine cream clay sculpture with a glossy glazed inner. It has a Carn Pottery stamp to the base and a hand scribed model number 'N30'... the stamps wore off over time and with use.
13.5cm tall x 9.5cm widest x 5cm round rim. Very good clean condition with no chips or cracks or damage. It has a few brown oxide spots to the decor.
Price includes P&P to the UK.
