A vintage studio pottery art vase, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so...
Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted blue, brown and green glazes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular pieces - like this. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes and primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs. 
The inner of this vase was probably moulded, then different contrasting shapes and decors were hand applied. The main vase is a slim and rectangular block vase. The front has a layered geometric fan design with straight lines and arcs; the front-most panel has a blue wave design. The two narrow sides have a scribbled pattern, and the reverse a stylised flower. It has muted matt colours in pale blues, browns and greens. A pale stoneware/clay sculpture with a glossy glazed inner. It has a Carn Pottery stamp to the base.
Rectangular overall - 13cm tall x 10cm widest x just 4cm deep. Very good with no visible flaws.
