An adorable large owl pottery figurine by Briglin Pottery, London, from the 1960s to 1970s. Beautifully stylised and typical of Briglin's Studio Pottery from at the time. He's a larger sized oval shape with low eyes. White glazed face with cute (hole) eyes and pointy beak. The glaze is duck egg, white and natural brown tones, with sgraffito (scratched) feathers. It's unstamped/unsigned with a red clay base. Empty - these had no option to open to get money out. Apx 11 x 10 x 9.5cm. A lovely collectable mid century example of a Briglin creature. Very good with no chips. Price includes P&P to the UK. Info: The Briglin Pottery was a studio pottery founded in 1948 by Brigitte Goldschmidt and Eileen Lewenstein in the basement of premises at 66 Baker Street, London. Its object was "to produce well designed, attractive pots that could be used in the home, and to sell them at affordable prices." It produced a large quantity of domestic pottery, much of it recognisable from its dark earthenware body, muted colours, white glaze and wax resist designs.
