A beautiful vintage art glass bowl by Tapio Wirkkala, part of the Aslak range for Ahlstrom Iittala from 1972. This range of large (heavy) bowls came in three variations (reindeer, map or clear) and this particular one is the elk/reindeer design. This is also the largest of the sizes available - over 6" wide. Model no 2625. Circa 1970s vintage. It maintains its original vintage triangular 'i' label and it is boxed too.
The design is on the base and is raised slightly, beautiful design of herds of reindeers with large antlers. The side of the dish is ice like textured and irregular, typical of Wirkkala's designs. The rim is flat and polished, as is the inner circular bowl. High quality glass, undoubtedly with a crystal content. Looks stunning in the sun. Can also be used a candle holder, for a pillar candle.
Glass is 1"+ thick around the outsides, making for a very heavy piece - it's a large bowl at about 16.5cm wide or 6.5". 4cm tall. Bigger than most! Weighs a hefty 1.3kg.
Perfect condition with no chips or marks, looks to be unused. The original label has worn off a little, and the original retro box is very tatty and aged (I've had to tape a bit of it back together!). Best you will find - please see photos.
Includes P&P to the UK.
