A pair of boxed stunning little candle holders (or paperweights) designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs IHQ, Denmark in the 1960s. In Denmark these candle holders are called "silver onion".
These are an older original pair made in Denmark from before production went overseas. So circa 1960s-1970s mid century vintage. They're a Modernist simplified form with a highly reflective silver plated finish (sorry about my reflections!). They have two bases so can either sit vertically or tilted at slight angle (see third photo). These little candle holders feel heavy and tactile and high quality. Stamped on the bases with 'Dansk Designs Denmark IHQ'.
They are miniature at just 6cm tall x 3.7cm wide (smaller than a Japanese version I had). The openings are 8mm wide x 1cm deep - they take a tall narrow tapered Scandinavian style candle, see 6th photo. Both in very good displayable and usable shiny condition. They come in their original box which is good with a few scars from old sellotape.
Perfect for a Mid Century interior and a Dansk paperweight/candle holder collector.
