A classic bit of mid-century design from the Arabia Ruska range, circa mid 1960s to mid 1970s vintage... This retro stoneware pottery bowl has a feature wide ridged rim. The glazes on these vary enormously between tan and brown to black, this one is a lovely mid brown with lighter brown highlights. It's signed to the base with 'Arabia Made in Finland', where there's also and old label.
The Ruska glaze was designed by Ulla Procopé in around 1960 and was produced until around the mid 1970s. The name Ruska roughly translates from the Finnish as 'Autumn'. Simple and beautifully designed with straight lines and concentric circle wide ridged rim - tactile and smooth. Perfect size to be a nut bowl.
Excellent condition, no chips or cracks. These all have deliberate irregularities in the glaze, so they're all different. 17cm wide x 5cm tall, inner dish is about 11cm x 3cm. The old sticker reads 'Erik Morch', suggesting an old Scandinavian retailer.
