A classic bit of mid-century design from the Arabia Ruska range... A large chunky cooking or casserole pot. The Ruska glaze was designed by Ulla ProcopГ© in around 1960, she worked for Arabia (Finland) from 1948 to 1968. This is circa 1970s retro. The name Ruska roughly translates from the Finnish as 'Autumn'.
The glazes on these pieces vary enormously between tan to brown to black, and this has a bit of everything - predominantly mid brown with darker blacker speckles to the lid. It has a simple straight body and is tactile with a curvier lid and natural autumn colours. Classic sturdy design. Brown glaze over white heavy stoneware. It's perfect for oven cooking and serving, and great for a collector and for display.
Main dish is 23cm widest from rim to rim x 10cm tall (inside diameter 18.8cm). With lid on it's about 15cm tall. It's chunky and heavy, weighing almost 2kg. Very good condition with no chips, a few marks internally from use. Logo to the base has worn off.
