A classic bit of mid-century design from the Arabia Ruska range... A set of 6 espresso cups and saucers.

The Ruska glaze was designed by Ulla Procopé in around 1960, she worked for Arabia (Finland) from 1948 to 1968. The name Ruska roughly translates from the Finnish as 'Autumn'. A sturdy tactile retro Scandinavian design, that feels contemporary and classy too. I'm pretty sure this set of small coffee cups date from 1967; these are the small ones suitable for an espresso or strong half-cup breakfast coffee. Simple lines and natural colouring and beautifully designed.

Brown glaze over white stoneware/earthenware. The glazes on these vary enormously between tan to brown to near black - these are generally a mid matte brown with highlights of lighter brown and darker brown/black speckles and lowlights. The charming individual differences in the glazes make every piece different. No base marks - the stamps wore off very easily.

Each cup is a petite 7cm wide at the rim x 4.2cm high. Each saucer is 12.5cm wide. They hold about 100ml to the rim. Please check this is the right size for your collection.

All excellent condition with no chips and very little signs of use, beautifully tactile. There are a couple of natural glazing flaws as you'd expect.
