A classic bit of mid-century design from the Arabia Ruska range... A huge round serving platter. The Ruska glaze was designed by Ulla Procopé in around 1960, she worked for Arabia (Finland) from 1948 to 1968. The name Ruska roughly translates from the Finnish as 'Autumn'.
The glazes on these pieces vary enormously between tan to brown to black, and this has a bit of everything - predominantly mid brown with darker blacker speckles. It has the logo intact to the base, suggesting it has always been hand washed and hardly used. The logo also identifies it as being from 1973 (the '73' in the logo).
It has simple lines and is tactile, with natural autumn colouring, beautifully designed. Classic sturdy design. Brown glaze over white heavy stoneware. It's perfect for serving cold meat and cheese platters and larger party dishes, especially around seasonal party times. Deep enough to hold everything in place.
33.3cm wide x about 3.5cm tall max (lemon shown for scale), inner flat area is about 25cm wide. It's chunky and heavy, weighing about 2kg. Excellent condition with no signs of use (amazing for 50+ years old). There's a white ceramic flaw to the baseline from manufacturing.
