A beautiful mid-century large fruit bowl by Arabia, Finland (or serving bowl, salad bowl etc)... The decor is Apples and the range was called Pomona. The shape was designed by Ulla Procopé and from 1965 Arabia started using the Pomona patterns by Raija Uosikkinen. The Pomona line consisted of simple drawn images of various fruits in a repetitive pattern. In total 10 different patterns were used, Apples being one of the original and earliest. Pomona was in production for nearly a decade from 1965 to about 1973. It has never been re-issued so all Pomona items you find these days are from this period. The decoration was applied through a silkscreen transfer process - so are usually still very bright. The Apple print is mid green, light green and lime green, on bright white ceramic/stoneware. The base of the bowl has eight oval panels adding interest to the lower shape. Very good condition with no crazing or chips, great for the age and better than most. The mid-sized bowl has a some rim glazing imperfections like tiny bubble dots and darker spots. About two dots of missing print - so pretty good. Some cutlery marks internally at the bottom of the bowl. The dish is stamped to the base with 'Arabia Made in Finland 3-69'. I was lead to believe that the latter number was the year of manufacture, so from 1969. Three sizes of bowl were available, this being the middle 21.5cm wide version. 21.5cm wide x 10.5cm tall. 1.25kg. Free P&P to the UK.
