A classic bit of mid-century design from the Arabia Ruska range... A set of 6 smaller stoneware/ceramic mug-shaped cups. The Ruska glaze was designed by Ulla Procopé in around 1960, she worked for Arabia (Finland) from 1948 to 1968. The name Ruska roughly translates from the Finnish as 'Autumn'. These are a sturdy tactile retro Scandinavian design, that feels contemporary and classy too (I grew up with this design and my dad still uses our set every day). Circa mid 1960s to mid 1970s vintage.
These are the smaller cups suitable for a double espresso or stronger cup of tea or coffee. Each cup is 7cm wide at the rim x 7 to 7.5cm high. These cups hold about 150ml, a 'demi-tasse' or half-cup. Please check this is the right size for your collection.
Simple lines and natural colouring and beautifully designed. Brown glaze over white stoneware/earthenware. The glazes on these vary enormously between tan to brown to near black - these are generally a mid darker matt brown with darker brown/black speckles. The charming individual differences in the glazes make every piece different. No basemarks - but the stamps wore off very easily.
All excellent condition with no chips and very little signs of use, beautifully tactile. There are a couple of natural glazing flaws /manufacturing imperfections as you'd expect.
Free P&P to the UK. Price is based on £8 per cup, including post.
