Whitefriars 9778 controlled bubble Aubergine art glass bowl/dish. 1970s lobed, encased bubbles. 5" Vintage/retro Geoffrey Baxter, bullicante
A fantastic five-lobed bullicante (controlled bubble) art glass bowl by Whitefriars, England. This one is the 9778 5" bowl in Aubergine. I can only find reference to the Aubergine colourway in this shape in the 1972 catalogue, so it would date from pretty much this time - 1972 to 1973. Designed by Geoffrey Baxter in the early Seventies.
Distinctive plum purple (Aubergine) inner, cased in clear glass outer. The glass has rows of tiny neat bubbles, very nicely made. There are five lobes or ribs. The base is flower-like, with five flat parts and the indented Whitefriars pontil.
Excellent condition with no chips/bites.
Really good chunk of retro 1972 or 1973 art glass in a hard to find colourway.
13cm wide x 6cm tall. Heavy for its size.
The photos don't do it justice!
P&P included to the UK.
