Vintage Vallauris fat lava red pitcher jug vase. Mid century retro. French ceramic pottery. Vintage smooth glossy drip glaze, 1970s France.

A fabulous Vallauris pitcher jug or vase. Made in France and circa 1960s or 1970s vintage. It's pottery/clay with a stylised pointy handle and exaggerated rim shape.

It's a liquid glaze - vivid red with browns and a splash of white have run together to form a smooth glossy unique surface. Internally it's a tan brown glaze. Pale clay base. Very much like the West German fat lava vases, or the Blue Mountain Pottery glazes, both from that 'fat lava' era. Unsigned.

29cm tall x 9cm wide belly x 11cm wide max at the handle. Excellent condition, looks very striking - great colouring! The glaze has deliberate drips, slight pitting and colour imperfections, one small manufacturing flaw is shown. The red is a pure red and the browns are a warm tan tone.

Perfect for a mid century sideboard.
