Vintage Louis Hudson pottery lamp base 1970s, Cornish Studio art. Brutalist rune geometric, round handmade ceramic stoneware. Modernist art

A super Louis Hudson signed lamp base, made in Cornwall, England, in the 1970s. Round disc shape with two round flat sides. Different pattern on each face, see photos. This particular example has carefully applied precise patterns - a quality and excellent example of Louis Hudson. The top has the original vintage fitting, to add a bulb socket and wiring to (this may need updating/replacing).

Louis Hudson opened a pottery in Trethevy Cornwall in 1971, closing in 1983. His work includes lamp bases, wheel vases, slab vases & cylinder vases in stoneware featuring distinctive geometric mouldings that reflected Cornish ceramics of the time. This is a fascinating piece with deliberate irregularities (hand applied patterns) which reflects its handmade studio pottery nature, and giving it great character - each piece is unique. The distinctive patterns are Runic/Celtic inspired with a Modernist/Brutalist appearance.

Lovely organic natural earthy neutral tones. Pale green/grey/taupe glossy background and side colour, with unglazed and glazed biscuit and brown coloured raised patterns on both sides. Would make a fab addition for any collector of Louis Hudson, Cornish or studio pottery, and would complement any retro-inspired home decor. A fascinating and functional sculptural artwork.

In very good vintage condition, a nice collectable example. Last photo shows a natural flaw in the pottery and glaze, and the maker's stamp. There are a couple of small slither chips, but due to the nature of the design and colouring they are very hard to find (photo 2).

It's stamped to the baseline with his telltale 'lh' initials. This pottery base is a smaller-sized 16cm tall x 14cm wide x 6.5cm deep. The round on each side is 14cm diameter.

Includes P&P to the UK.
