Vintage Louis Hudson Pottery hand thrown cookie/biscuit jar. Retro 1970s stoneware. Retro Mid Century studio art, signed storage/tea.
A stunning and unusual 1970s retro cookie or sweet jar, by Louis Hudson Pottery, Cornwall, UK. Hand thrown handmade plain pottery container - most likely designed for biscuits, but equally suitable for teabags or sweets. It seals shut due to the (vintage) clear plastic seal on the rim.
A simple barrel shape, it has a minimalist and simple design and colouring, typical of Studio Pottery of the time. The main body and lid has a taupe/mushroom/beige matte glaze. Bamboo or shaped wooded handle works well and holds its weight. Signed on the baseline with the distinctive 'lh' logo.
Louis Hudson opened this pottery in Trethevy Cornwall in 1971, leaving in 1983 to become a lorry driver. His distinctive work in stoneware usually features geometric mouldings and reflects Cornish ceramics of the time. This is unusual in that it doesn't have his typical 3D patterns and colourings/glazes.
Jar main body is 12.5cm tall x 11.5cm wide. Stands 15.5cm tall with lid on, and 21cm tall with wooden handle stood vertical.
Lovely very useable and displayable condition! No chips, some small marks to the wooden handle.
Price includes P&P to the UK. UK only due to size.
