Vintage Hornsea Concept Swan Lake tea/coffee pot. Cream matte ceramic pottery. Martin Hunt & Colin Rawson. 1970s Mid-century/retro circles
A striking late 1970s or early 1980s Hornsea Concept Swan Lake tea or coffee pot, designed by Martin Hunt & Colin Rawson. The Concept design won a Design Council Award in 1977, and it's featured in the V&A Museum. The design was inspired by streamlined 1930s style with modern 1970s shapes. It has a series of evenly spaced concentric circles, with a slight step between each ring. The Swan Lake range also features a Swan finial to the lid. Stylish and simple, this is the taller more oval tea or coffee pot, in the original matte pale cream/biscuit colouring. It's a chalky finish - like a bisque porcelain finish (very prone to marks). Glossy inside and in the central middle ovals.
Very good condition. No chips or cracks. There's a couple of tiny marks, see pictures - I cleaned it again after photographing so it's better than shown. Stamped to the base with 'Hornsea Concept, Made in England'. 18cm tall to the top of the swan, 21cm long from handle to spout, 12.5cm wide. Holds about 2.5 pints max - a good sized, high volume, vintage tea or coffee pot.
