Vintage Evangeline 992 mid-century pitcher/jug/vase. Canuck Pottery ceramic green drip glazed. Stylised Modernist 1970s retro. Blue Mountain
A stylish 1970s Canadian ornamental pitcher jug. It's by Evangeline from Canuck - very similar to Blue Mountain Pottery. Like BMP, these were mostly sold as tourist ware, with their distinctive green, blue or red over black liquid glazes.
Red clay base with two different liquid glazed colours. During the firing process the glazes would run, creating streaking patterns unique to each piece. This piece has the green and black glazes - starting black, it drips through iridescent (petrol-like) colours, to dark green around the rounded middle, before the black base. Inside is glossy black. It's all very smooth, glossy, liquid and reflective. It's a typical mid century styled simplified shape, not unlike a West German vase design.
It's a smaller size - 17cm x 9.5cm x 8cm, and in good condition with no chips. Any deliberate runs and patches in the glaze are all part of the appeal and all as intended - see photos. There's a small dot of missing glaze right in the middle, see last photo (not a chip). No readable maker's marks to the base, but you can just make out the Evangeline writing and '992' (the model number).
Perfect for a mid-century inspired interior, on a teak sideboard or shelf. Great for use as a vase too.
