Vintage embroidery picture, framed abstract teasel flower. Hessian wall hanging. Floral beaded thread work artwork. 1960s Penelope kit, 1967

A stunning vintage embroidered artwork, depicting an abstract teasel head. It's in its original frame and embroidered onto hessian - all typical of the 1960s or 1970s era.

It's dated exactly to 1967 - it was given as a "Christmas Present to Greengarth 1967". It's an abstract floral/plant interpretation with many different textures and components. It uses beads, sequins, metallic thread and netting, as well as different types and weights of threads. Many different techniques and stitch types, please study the photos close up.

This originated from a kit form in the 1960s - this example has been very carefully and well made by a skilled hobbyist. I suspect this came from the Penelope series of traced pictures to create at home using the supplied threads and beads, but I've been unable to find another like it.

Colours - warm neutral tones with reddy brown, grey, brick red, beige and cream. Hessian is a light warm brown and is stretched tautly. Very good condition simple wooden frame. Frame has a few marks/splinters and some tape coming off to the reverse.

All very good condition, clean, and perfect to go straight on the wall. No stitches or beads/sequins out of place (that i can spot) - pretty good stitching. 49 x 42cm total.

Great for a retro or mid century home, ideal for the hallway or over a desk/sideboard.
