Vintage Egersund Norway Kongo storage jar, hand painted ceramic. 1960s mid century Norwegian/Scandinavian. Retro pottery lidded pot/canister

A mid-century lidded canister or storage jar, by Egersund, Norway. The design is 'Kongo', an Onion design, and it's by Kåre Blokk Johansen. Dating from the 1960s.

A simple earthenware/ceramic round pot with straight sides. It has its original hardwood lid (a dark reddy wood - probably teak). The lid has no seal, so is simply placed loose on top. The pot has the Kongo print all round, black outlines with hand-painted bits in brown, ochre and blue grey. Base colour glaze is a neutral ivory. Ideal as a kitchen item or for decorative storage, would work as either. Perfect size for holding tea, sugar, etc but with no seal it's best suited to a display in a collection.

Stamped to base with the logo. Very good vintage condition with no chips or crazing, clean internally. Lid would benefit from a re-oil. 10.3cm wide x 11.6cm tall, 12.6cm tall with lid on.
