Vintage David Sharp Rye Pottery vase. 1960s/1970s handmade pot. Retro British Studio Pottery, ceramic art. Brown resist/bubble glaze. Signed
A signed vintage David T Sharp (Rye Pottery) vase or pot. Handmade (wheel thrown) with a pale stoneware clay, and circa 1960s/1970s era. Typical decor and colourings of the Rye Potteries - coffee and cream tones - glossy watery white over matte brown wax/oil resist patterns, see photos. The thin white over-glaze has deliberately bubbled so there are many burst bubbles and pits and drips.
17cm tall x 10cm wide.
Very good external condition with no chips. Hand signed to the base. Being handmade, it's unique with its drips, handpainted lines and burst bubbles - including all over the rim. Internally there are fine crazing lines (see pics), so this vase is more for display than use (with water). A lovely collectable and displayable example of retro British Studio Pottery.
PS. I was chatting to someone last week who knew David Sharp back in the day (I'm local to the pottery), he said he used to go down The George in Rye on a Tuesday and have way too many drinks, then go back to work....!
Price includes P&P to the UK.
