Vintage Broadstairs Pottery 6 cups & saucers, sugar bowl + jug. 1960s/1970s handmade, wheel thrown. Mary Dening/Dianne Sanders/David White.
A lovely neutral-toned vintage coffee set by Broadstairs Pottery, Kent. They're smaller half-sized (demitasse) cups and saucers, so more suitable for a stronger coffee. It's a set of six, with the original matching cream jug and sugar bowl.
Circa 1970s or so - the pottery ran from 1968 to 1983. Broadstairs Pottery was David James White and Mary Dening I believe, but some items are also by Dianne Sanders. They're nearly all stamped to the base with the Broadstairs Pottery logo stamp, and most pieces also have the initials GL (I have no idea who this artist is).
Warm biscuit coloured unglazed lower sections with two rows of incised shapes; top sections are cream and brown striped glazes with a light glaze. They're all wheel thrown and hand made in a simple cylindrical shape. Typical of the 1970s Studio Pottery era, and much like works from Tremain and Louis Hudson.
Sizes are approximate, and being handmade they vary:
Cups - half cup or strong coffee sized - 7.2cm tall x 6cm wide rim. They're about 150ml or a half cup size.
Saucers - 11cm wide.
Milk or cream jug - 9.4cm tall x 7cm wide rim.
Sugar bowl - 5cm tall x 9cm wide rim.
Excellent condition with no chips. Look to be unused. I've not tested them. Any glaze imperfections are from at the time of manufacture. The handles have been put on rather clumsily (see photos) but they're all very sturdy. One cup has a little white paint on it.
