Vintage Blue Mountain Pottery mid-century teapot. Canadian ceramic teal green liquid drip glazed. Modernist mid century 1970s retro, Canada
A 1970s Canadian ceramic teapot. Its by Blue Mountain Pottery (BMP) - they specialised in retro animal figurines and ornaments, mostly sold as tourist ware, with their distinctive liquid glazes.
Red clay base with a unique, trademarked glazing process known as 'reflowing decorating'. Two different liquid glazes, one light and one dark in colour, were applied. During the firing process the glazes would run, creating streaking patterns unique to each piece. This piece has the green and black glazes - it drips through green with some lighter teal blue/greens, before the black base. The blacks are very dark brown in places. It's all very glossy and liquid and smooth! Inside is black. It's a typical retro stylised shape. Stamped with the BMP triangular logo with 'Canada' to the base. With Blue Mountain Pottery there are deliberate runs and patches and irregularities in the glaze, all part of the appeal and all as intended - see photos.
It's mid sized 12cm tall (without lid), 16cm tall with lid. It's 22cm longest, and roughly 12cm at the belly of the pot. Holds apx 1.5 pints, is very clean and pours well.
Very good condition. Perfect for a 70s styled interior, probably more for display and as a splash of colour and retro design.
